Card security solutions can be divided into three categories:
- Security measures applied before card printing
- Security measures applied during card printing
- Security measures applied after card printing
Security Measures Applied Before Card Printing
These security features are embedded in the cards during manufacturing by card production factories, making it extremely difficult or impossible to replicate outside these facilities. Some of the pre-printing security measures include:
1-1) Ultraviolet (UV) Logos on the Front and Back of the Card:
These images are invisible under normal conditions and can only be seen under UV light.
1-2) Infrared (IR) Logos and Images:
These images are also invisible under normal conditions and become visible only under IR light.
1.3) Microtext Technique in Card Security Solutions
In this method, extremely fine details are printed on the card at up to 1600 DPI using the OFFSET technique during manufacturing. These details are sometimes only visible with the aid of a magnifying glass. Even if a counterfeiter attempts to scan this information, it cannot be reproduced with any printer. Some designs are printable with new XID8600 series printers at 600 DPI.
1.4) Guilloche Patterns
These are intricate, interwoven lines printed at up to 1600 DPI, creating complex patterns that are hard to replicate.
5-1- Anti-copy lines (Protection Against Copy)
These lines are designed so that any copied image differs from the original, helping to identify counterfeit cards.
1.6) Special Inks in Card Security Solutions
In this case, with the Silk Screen method, shapes are printed with special colors that have different colors at different viewing angles. It is worth mentioning that existing printers are not able to produce and print these colors.
1.7) ICI Technique in Card Security Solutions
In this method, the pre-printed design on the card appears normal until a special lens is used, revealing hidden images.
1.8) Transparent Technique
Cards with a transparent section displaying the organization’s logo.
Security Measures Applied During Card Printing
These security features are applied during the card printing process. Since they are created using a printer, they can potentially be replicated with another printer. Consequently, this type of security is considered less robust compared to the other two types.
2.1) Shadow Imaging Technique
While printing the cardholder’s photo, a faint, shadow-like image of the photo is also printed in the background.
2.2) Layered Images
Combining multiple images, such as the cardholder’s signature and the organization’s stamp, over the photo.
2.3) IPI Technique
Similar to the ICI technique the hidden information is embedded in the cardholder’s photo
2.4) Ultraviolet Printing (Blue Color) in Card Security Solutions
Considering that the XID series 8 and 9 printers can print the ultraviolet security layer, with the help of the YMCKUV ribbon of these devices, this security can be created in the cards.
Security Measures Applied After Card Printing
3.1) Holograms
After printing, a hologram can be applied to enhance security and provide an additional protective layer. Holograms are available in two forms: metallic (cold adhesive and hot adhesive) and transparent. For full card coverage, transparent holograms are recommended, as they come in two varieties: thin and thick. Thin holograms offer higher security, while thick holograms provide greater durability for the cards.
